About Osteopathy

Osteopathic therapy is an art and a science, rooted in a deep understanding of anatomy and physiology and the interconnectedness of all body systems. Osteopathy is concerned with supporting the body’s innate ability to self-heal and regulate through gentle hands on treatment.  It is used to reverse mechanical shifts that have occurred in the body over time. Manual osteopathic therapy is a whole body approach aiming to treat the root cause of dysfunction to restore balance to all body systems.

While there are some similarities between the manual therapies, osteopathy has some unique treatment approaches and techniques. Osteopathic therapy is based on a whole body approach. It does not focus solely on symptoms but rather on the underlying structural, functional, psychological, and emotional factors involved. Osteopathic therapy addresses imbalances in the musculoskeletal (bones, muscles, fascia, joints), viscera (organs), and nervous and circulatory systems.

Osteopathic therapy can help people of all ages with a with a wide range of conditions including but not limited to:

  • injury recovery

  • postural imbalances

  • low back pain

  • nerve entrapment

  • sciatica

  • pelvic imbalances

  • digestive issues

  • respiratory issues

  • menstrual problems

  • whiplash

  • headaches

  • tinnitus

  • sleep disturbances

  • stress

  • anxiety

Treatment involves an integrated approach, working with the musculoskeletal framework, the fascia, the viscera, and the lymphatic, and nervous systems.

History & Philosophy

Osteopathy is based on the perfection of Nature’s work. When all parts of the human body are in line we have health.
— Andrew Taylor Still

Osteopathy is a holistic medical philosophy and practice that originated in the 19th century. It was developed by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, who believed that the body has the innate ability to heal itself.

The founding principles of osteopathy include treating the body as a whole, considering the mind, body, and spirit. Acknowledging that the body is capable of self-regulation, self-healing, and health maintenance and that physiological structure and function are reciprocally interrelated. Rational treatment is based upon an understanding of the basic principles of body unity, self-regulation, and the interrelationship of structure and function.

Osteopathy emphasizes preventative medicine such as balanced nutrition, exercise, and nurturing our mental & emotional well-being.

About me

Hello qathet, my name is Allie and I am so happy to be here. I feel deeply honoured to be offering my practice and holding a safe and supportive space in this community. My goal as an osteopathic therapist is to work with you, listen to your body tell its unique story, and to provide osteopathic treatment based on your individualized needs and goals. You’ll find me to be present, compassionate, gentle, and grounded in my approach. I completed my Bachelors of Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology at the University of British Columbia in 2020. Since then I have continued to pursue a deeper understanding of health and wellness and how we can nurture our mind, body, and spirit in a holistic way. Ultimately this led me to complete my Manual Osteopathic Therapy program through the Manual Osteopathic College of Canada in Vancouver. It’s incredibly important for me to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive therapeutic environment. The values that I continually orient towards in my practice include curiosity, openness, compassion, empathy, and patience.
